Hopalong Cassidy Back After Near-Break
Leading Brisbane hoop Larry Cassidy, who has been recovering from a fractured leg, is expected to return to the races in the near future, reports AAP. The highly accomplished Gr1 jockey plans to begin with trackwork on the weekend, and then swiftly get back on course by the following week at Sunshine Coast’s Friday meeting. Initially thinking he’d aggrevated a minor injury five weeks ago, Cassidy subsequently discovered he had suffered a stress fracture of his leg during a barrier mishap in late July. With the rider gritting his teeth and pushing on through the pain, the original fracture was exacerbated, subsequent x-rays showed it had increased to an almost 90mm crack in his left tibia. Grateful to have caught the problem before it became a full-blown break, Cassidy has had to give the injury and himself time to rest.
