Smith Calls The Shots On Gr1 Trio

Wednesday, 18th September 2019

Dual State trainer Lindsey Smith, whose Victorian base at Warrnambool is proving a perfect hub for his Perth stable to cherry-pick Melbourne’s features, has made some key decisions in the past 24 hours regarding Gr1-winning trio Scales of Justice, Malaguerra and Black Hart Bart. Recent Gr1 Memsie Stakes winner Scales of Justice has been sent to the paddock, and will be prepared for next Autumn’s Gr1 C.F. Orr Stakes and Gr1 Futurity Stakes, with Smith saying the Not A Single Doubt gelding has done his job this time in. Dual Gr1 winner Malaguerra has been retired and will head back to WA to live out his days. Meanwhile, multiple Gr1 winner Black Heart Bart will remain in work as a race by race proposition, pending retirement, after finishing mid-field behind Scales of Justice in the Memsie. He’ll represent the stable on Saturday in the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, after Smith told AAP he was happy with Tuesday’s work by the 8YO gelding.
