A Dozen To Face Libertini in Tea Rose

Wednesday, 18th September 2019

Sydney racing’s new golden girl, Libertini, is set to face 12 competitors in Saturday’s Gr2 Darley Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick. Winner of the first two legs of the Darley Princess Series for 3YO fillies, the Gr2 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes and Gr2 Darley Furious Stakes, Libertini didn’t have matters all her own way in the latter where she was forced to face a howling wind for much of the trip. Gr2 Sweet Embrace Stakes and Gr2 Percy Sykes winner Anaheed is among the acceptances, as is kiwi filly Probabeel who put in an eye-catching finish in the Furious Stakes and will benefit from the additional 200m of the Tea Rose. Also of note is Chris Waller’s boom filly Funstar, beaten just a half-length behind untapped Yao Dash less than two weeks ago. Although Godolphin has the promising Gr3-winning, dual Gr2-placed Flit in with  chance, it’s looking increasingly likely that Libertini could sweep the entire series, and provide her connections with up to 5 free stallion nominations from sponsor Darley.
