Champion European 2YO Pretty Pollyanna Retired
Last season's European Champion 2YO Filly Pretty Pollyanna (Oasis Dream-Unex Mona Lisa, by Shamardal) has been retired to her owner Bill Gredley's Newmarket farm, and will be bred with early next year, reports bloodhorse.com. "We've decided to retire Pretty Pollyanna as there was only one more race she could go for at Ascot next month, and the ground may well have gone against her by then. She was champion juvenile filly in Europe last year when she gave us a great day at Deauville, and she owes us nothing," said Tim Gredley. "It's been hard for her taking on the colts this year, but she retires fit and healthy, and the plan is that she could become a star broodmare for the stud. All being well, we'll take her to Frankel in 2020." In 2018, Pretty Pollyanna won three of her six 2YO starts, including the Gr1 Deauville Prix Morny over 1200m, the Gr2 Newmarket Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, and was third in the Gr1 Newmarket Fillies' Mile. As a 3YO, she missed the Gr1 One Thousand Guineas due to an interrupted preparation, but ran second in the Gr1 Irish One Thousand Guineas. A further four starts resulted in a fourth in the Gr1 July Cup, and last start runner-up in the Listed Hopeful Stakes.
