Godolphin Tops First Keeneland Session
Meanwhile, at the close of the successful opening session of Book 1 of the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Godolphin sat atop the throne as the leading buyer (by aggregate) with Sheikh Mohammed having outlaid US$5.25 million for just three lots. The trio included the session-topping US$2.5 million Tapit half-brother to Darley’s Gr1 Kentucky Derby winning stallion Nyquist, also winner of three Gr1s as a juvenile including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Darley’s globally successful sire and former Hunter Valley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro added to the organisation’s day, finishing the session on top for both gross (US$6.225 million) and average (US$889,286). Contributing to those positive metrics was Godolphin’s US$2.15 million acquisition of Lot 138, a Medaglia d’Oro colt out of Tara’s Tango (Unbridled’s Song), winner of the Gr1 Santa Margarita Stakes and placed in the Gr1 Apple Blossom Stakes.
