Jumbo's Swing And a Miss Worth Forgiving

Wednesday, 4th September 2019

Lightly raced Unencumbered 4YO gelding Jumbo Ozaki, named in honour of Japan's big swinging golfer, put in an ostensibly below-par run in his first-up start at Flemington, but he should be forgiven the swing and a  miss on two fronts: it was his first start down the straight six where horses unused to the experience can get a little lost, and it was also his first start on a heavy surface. Today's 1400m journey in Race 7 at Sandown is set to be contested on a track rated as Good, and with a handy draw and only a half-kilo above the minimum, the Philip Stokes-trained horse should show glimpses of the 3YO that won his maiden by 7-lengths at Pakenham. Top-weight Rox The Castle has been well supported and appears the main danger to Jumbo Ozaki.
