Spendthrift Principal Backs Anti-Drugs WHOA

Tuesday, 3rd September 2019

In the US, Spendthrift Farm's principal Wayne Hughes has announced his commitment to the Water Hay Oats Alliance (WHOA), the 1,800-person strong organisation which stands in support of The Horseracing Integrity Act (HR1754/S1820) – a bill to create a national, standardised program for drug rules and testing. According to bloodhorse.com, Hughes, whose domineering industry presence spans two Hemispheres, will use his voice to impress the need for a solution to the widespread drug use in American racing; and that the appointment of an independent anti-doping agency is one such resolution. "The need for this legislation is urgent," Hughes emphasised. "The future of horse racing hangs in the balance of its enactment. We are on the edge of the cliff."
