Olympic Oath On The Derby Path

Thursday, 18th July 2019

Impressive 2YO winner Olympic Oath (Olympic Glory-Flighty, by Zabeel) will be aimed at the VRC Derby this spring. On Tuesday, Olympic Oath won at Ballarat over 1500m at only his second start (having run second on debut over 1400m in early July). Spicer Thoroughbreds Bloodstock Manager Brad Spicer, who won the VRC Derby last year with Extra Brut (Domesday-Dom Perion, by Redoute's Choice) told racing.com, "He relaxed well, finished off well, he was challenged, and I like that he dug deep late. He should really improve off this and the further he goes the better he should get." Spicer added, "Extra Brut was a bit more brilliant than him, but he's put the writing on the wall today and you've just got to keep hoping. He's a stretchy sort of colt, out of a Zabeel mare, so you always hope he can get out to a Derby trip." Olympic Oath's dam Flighty is a winning daughter of Gr1 Doomben Ten Thousand winner Flitter (Bluebird).
