Purton Could Be Wide of the Mark

Tuesday, 9th July 2019

Displaying the topsy-turvy aspect of racing, where’s luck’s a fortune, jockey Zac Purton has been brought down to earth after his six winners at Sha Tin last weekend. Chasing the hitherto out-of-reach 170-win Hong Kong seasonal record set by Joao Moreira two years ago, Purton requires another seven winners to enter the record books but has had a number of Wednesday’s mounts at Happy Valley draw very wide. According to scmp.com, out of nine rides for Purton, only three will start inside barrier 9. Two of Purton’s chances will be for trainer John Moore with whom he has enjoyed considerable success during the current season, winning at a remarkable 40% strike rate from 83 runners. The duo will combine on Sunday as well at Sha Tin, where it could also be a make or break for Moore, curently just one behind John Size for the trainers’ title.
