Royal Ascot Chosen For Enable's Return
Europe’s champion mare Enable will no longer make her much anticipated race return in the Gr1 Coronation Stakes at Epsom at the end of the month, instead being held back for Royal Ascot reports horsebetting.com.au. Raced by Frankel’s owner Khalid Abdullah, the freakishly talented performer has not raced since winning her second Gr1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe last October before backing up to win the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Turf (see below) where she became the first horse in history to complete the double. Abdullah’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe advised that Enable could return instead in either the Prince of Wales’ Stakes or Hardwicke Stakes at June’s Royal Ascot meeting. “[Trainer] John [Gosden] is pleased with her… she’s in great nick and enthusiastic.” He added, “We’ve always said the Arc is the main target. These races are very important, so it’s a question of picking the right one and getting the right route back to Longchamp.” Enable was kept in work specifically in an attempt to become the first ever three-time winner of the Arc.
