Caravaggio Half-Brother Debuts At York

Thursday, 16th May 2019

A juvenile having his first start will be the centre of attention at today's York meeting in the UK. In the last race of the day, a 2YO Maiden over 1200m, Hong Kong (American Pharoah-Mekko Hokte, by Holy Bull) will jump from gate 10 where he will be ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Aidan O'Brien. Like his famous half-brother Caravagigo, Hong Kong is also a roan/grey colour. He was purchased for US$1 million at the 2018 Keeneland January All Ages Sale, and races for regular Ballydoyle triumverate of Derrick Smith, Sue Magnier and Michael Tabor. Notwithstanding the connection to Caravaggio, a blazingly fast Gr1 winner at two and three who was undefeated from his first six starts, Hong Kong is just the sixth runner by US 3YO Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, whose first 5 runners to race include 2 winners and 2 place-getters.
