Dundeel's Dealmaker Has Stamina On His Side
The Chris Waller-trained Dealmaker (Dundeel), a last start second in the Gr2 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) behind Savabeel’s The Chosen One, looks the one to beat in Saturday’s Gr3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m), with the 3YO colt then likely to progress on towards the Gr1 Queensland Derby (2400m). While beaten at his most two recent starts over the trip of Saturday’s race, the winners of those races The Autumn Sun and The Chosen One are clearly lengths better than anything he will meet in the Rough Habit Plate. Out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Sport Chic, a half-sister to the Gr2-winning Foxwedge mare Alassio, Dealmaker’s pedigree traces back to many staying black type winners and his sire being a multiple Gr1 winner at 2000m an above, plus Redoute’s Choice being the broodmare sire of Ace High, Levendi, D’Argento, Arcadia Queen and Extra Brut – all Gr1 winners at 1800m plus, everything looks right on track for Dealmaker. One of the hardest to beat could come from the Frank Packer Plate third placegetter Purple Sector (Pins), from the family of Hill Of Grace and Renewable, while the Steven O’Dea-trained The Golden Hind (Tavistock) was a last start nine and three quarter length winner over 1600m. Purchased from the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $160,000, Dealmaker has a full-brother named Dunoon in the David Payne stable, and a yearling by Japanese Gr1 winner Real Impact that was sold at this year’s Magic Millions for just $55,000 to Riyue Trading Pty.
