At Caulfield in Melbourne, Windsor Park Stud's triple Gr1-winning shuttler Rip Van Winkle (Galileo-Looking Back, by Stravinsky) added a black-type success when 4YO mare Naantali (Rip Van Winkle-Zaloot, by Zabeel) atoned for an unlucky recent run in stakes class this year when surging down the outside late to comfortably defy the ultra unlucky 5YO gelding Manolo Blahnik by 1.75-lengths in the $140,000 Listed Anniversary Stakes (1400m). The winner's stablemate Kemono was third at double-figure odds. A NZ$180,000 yearling purchase at the 2016 NZB National Sales Series from the draft of Windsor Park Stud, Naantali took her record to 6 wins and 6 placings (including the Gr3 Mannerism Stakes & Gr3 Schweppervescence Trophy) from 18 starts for $456,400 in earnings. Naantali, assumedly named after the prolific tourist centre in south-western Finland, comes from a solid family including Gr2 Royal Sovereign winner Flying Pegasus and athletic Listed Bendigo Guineas winner Milwaukee.
