Sunlight Up For Her TJ Smith Challenge

Wednesday, 3rd April 2019

Taking on arguably the best field of sprinters she has tackled in her 15 start career, triple Gr1-winning 3YO filly Sunlight faces a tough task in Saturday's $2.5 million Gr1 Aquis TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick. Drawn the outside gate of 11, the Magic Millions purchased daughter of Zoustar has proven successful at her last two starts, both at Gr1 level, highlighted by a stunning three-parts victory in the Gr1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley. "It will be a very big contest for her, probably her biggest contest. She's run in the Magic Millions Classic, she's run in the Golden Slipper and they're high-pressure contests and she's handled herself very well in those," McEvoy said on Tuesday to AAP. "And I expect her to do the same here." Trainer Tony McEvoy has expressed concerns over the state of the track and has indicated that he won't start his star filly on a very wet surface but accepted with the filly as the weather in Sydney can change quite quickly. Working at Randwick on Tuesday morning, McEvoy was content with how the filly pulled up after the gallop.
