In Sydney at Rosehill, former Arrowfield shuttler and Kentucky Derby & World Cup winner Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux–Dalicia, by Acatenango) scored a Group success when 3YO gelding Angel Of Truth (Animal Kingdom-Scarletini, by Bernardini) scored a 2-length victory for Kembla Grange-based trainer Gwenda Markwell in the $200,000 Gr2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) for 3YOs, defeating geldings Madison County (who started a short-priced favourite) & Cossetot. This race provided another upset as an on-pace bias seemed to be the order of the day so far; the son of Animal Kingdom remained unchallenged for the lead and jockey Corey Brown was able to set a sedate pace and hold off a late run from Gr1 winner Madison County, who looked to be the winner at the 200m but was unable to sustain a finish on the testing track. This is the first stakes success for Angel Of Truth, who although never before tested over the 2000m, displayed a gritty turn of foot to finish fifth, beaten only 3-lengths a fortnight ago on the same track in a BM78 over 1900m. He today improved his record to 4 wins from 7 starts for $186,825 in earnings.
