Key European Staying Series Ramps Up
Bloodhorse reports that Europe's Weatherbys Hamilton Stayers Million Series will return in 2019 with an increased list of qualifying races. One of the objectives of Weatherbys Hamilton is to support and promote the stayers, a horse they see as the backbone of the European Thoroughbred for the three hundred years of Weatherbys' existence. The 2019 series will include eight qualifying races across Britain, Dubai, Germany, France, and Ireland between March and May. Any horse that wins one of these eight races, then goes on to win the trio of the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot (June 20th), the Qatar Goodwood Cup at the Qatar Goodwood Festival (July 30th) and the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup at York (August 23rd) will win the £1 million bonus prize. Last year, the bonus was taken out by Stradivarius (Sea the Stars-Private Life, by Bering). Weatherbys Hamilton CEO Charles Hamilton told Bloodhorse, "From the moment that Stradivarius crossed the line in the Lonsdale Cup at York last year, it was always our intention to continue with the Weatherbys Hamilton Stayers' Million in 2019. It is very gratifying to be closely associated with a group of horses whose survival is so vital to the health and diversity of the racing and breeding industries." Read about the series HERE.
