$3,500 Filly Heads NZ Filly Of The Year Series

Tuesday, 26th February 2019

Even though there are always inexpensive horses that make a mockery of their sales price, it's still rare to find leading racehorses selling for four figure sums. New Zealand-bred filly Imelda Mary (Ferlax) has turned convention on its head by leading the prestigious New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year series. Purchased for a paltry $3,500 at the Festival (Book 3) session of the 2017 NZB National Yearling Sales Series, Imelda Mary already has two Gr2 victories to her name which have garnered her 16 valuable points in the competition. At Hastings tomorrow, she'll attempt to hold challengers at bay when competing in the $100,000 Little Avondale Lowland Stakes (2100m) at Hastings. Already the earner of $168,850 for Matamata trainer Wayne Hillis and his co-owners Chris Delamore and Ross Robertson, Imelda Mary will feel the heat from Queen Of Diamonds (NZ) (Savabeel) and Secret Allure (NZ) (Zacinto), either one of which would assume the lead should they win, and the bargain-basement buy misses the placings.
