In the final event at Caulfield in Melbourne, 5YO UK-bred gelding Avilius (Pivotal-Alessandria, by Sunday Silence) finished full of running to win going away by 1.5-lengths for trainer James Cummings in the $200,000 Gr2 Carlton Draught Peter Young (1800m) at weight-for-age, defeating 5YO gelding Trap For Fools & 4YO entire Ace High. Although drifting back to mid-field from where he was awkwardly placed behind a wall of horses soon after the field fanned for home, Bowman soon found room for the favourite to dash clear and provide the Godolphin silks with three major victories for the day at Caulfield. Avilius improved his record to 8 wins (including 6 in Australia – among them the Gr3 T.S.Carlyon Cup, Gr3 Bart Cummings Handicap, Gr3 Kingston Town Stakes & Gr3 Premier’s Cup) and 3 placings from 15 starts for $1,058,308 in earnings.
