The final field has been declared and the barrier draw conducted for the $2 million Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) to be run at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne on Saturday. A capacity field of 16 plus two emergencies have been declared for the 3YO classic. First run in 1855, the Victoria Derby is firmly established as one of the most prestigious events on the Australian racing calendar. Past winners include the legendary Phar Lap (1929), Comic Court (1948), Tulloch (1957), Sky High (1960), Tobin Bronze (1965), Taj Rossi (1973), Dulcify (1978), Sovereign Red (1980), Mahogany (1993), Nothin' Leica Dane (1995), Elvstroem (2003), and Efficient (2006), The clear favourite for the 2018 renewal is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained colt Thinkin' Big who is currently $3 with TAB. Next best in the market is the Godolphin-owned Aramayo at $7, followed by Extra Brut at $8, Chapada & Savoie at $11, and Sikorsky & Stars Of Carrum at $13.
