No Cox Plate for Smart Colt

Tuesday, 23rd October 2018

Talented colt Thinkin' Big has been declared a non-runner in Saturday's Gr1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, reports racenet. Co-trainer Gai Waterhouse floated the idea of running the 3YO in the $5 million weight-for-age showpiece after his impressive win in last Saturday's Gr3 Ladbrokes Classic (2000m), but those plans were abandoned late Sunday afternoon. Thinkin' Big (High Chaparral-Nothin’ Leica Cat, by Tale of The Cat) will progress to his primary spring target, the $2 million Gr1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on 3 November. "The Derby has always been the aim with him and I think that is where he will go. His preparation has been aimed at the Derby," fellow trainer Adrian Bott said. "He would be a great horse for the Cox Plate next year but for the benefit of the horse something like a Cox Plate this year might just be a bit too soon for him. He’d be meeting Winx, one of the best horses we have seen for a long time."
