At Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, Coolmore’s deceased dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) added a Group race success when 3YO Australian-bred colt Thinkin’ Big (High Chaparral-Nothin’ Leica Cat, by Tale of The Cat) showed his class when leading throughout for an emphatic win in the $350,000 Gr3 Ladbrokes Classic (2000m) for 3YOs, defeating Chapada & Sikorsky. A homebred for Dodmark Thoroughbreds, Thinkin' Big is a sibling to Gr3 winner Stampede and improved his record to 4 wins (including the Gr3 Gloaming Stakes) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes) from 6 starts for $487,845 in earnings. Thinkin' Big is now the dominant $3 favourite for the Gr1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on 3 November, but co-trainer Gai Waterhouse said the exciting colt could first back up and run in Saturday’s Cox Plate at Moonee Valley. “He's in them all but we'll let the dust settle before we make up our mind,” she told racing.com. “We brought him down for the Derby, but we'll have a think.”
