Cracksman Bows Out in Style

Monday, 22nd October 2018

In a mirror performance of his 2017 victory, Cracksman (Frankel-Rhadegunda, by Pivotal) once again routed his rivals when successfully defending his title in the Gr1 Champion Stakes (10 furlongs) on British Champions day at Ascot on Saturday. Prepared by John Gosden on behalf of owner-breeder Anthony Oppenheimer, Cracksman showed what a classy animal he is when storming to the front a furlong from home to score an emphatic six-length win over Crystal Ocean & Subway Dancer in the £1.3 million showpiece. John Gosden praised Cracksman as one of the best he has trained and said he was now likely be retired to stud. "It is super to have him back. Obviously he liked to get his toe in. He is by Frankel out of a Pivotal mare. Frankel won on any ground, but a Pivotal mare is a bit of a clue," Gosden told Sky Sports. "He is a hugely talented horse and he showed it again today and I'm sure he will be off to stud now. When he's in the zone, he's a very good horse. He's Frankel's best son and it's good to see him back to his best." Cracksman retires with a record of 8 wins (including four Group 1s - namely the 2017 Champion Stakes (twice), Coronation Cup & Prix Ganay) and 3 placings (including the English & Irish Derbys) from 11 starts for £2,803,331 in earnings.
