At Randwick in Sydney, Arrowfield Stud's incumbent Champion Australian Sire Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) celebrated a lucrative feature race triumph when 6YO gelding Redzel (Snitzel-Millrich, by Rubiton) scored by 1.3-lengths for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden in the $13,000,000 The Tab Everest (1200m) defeating 4YO entire Trapeze Artist & 5YO gelding Osborne Bulls who finished down the stand side of the course. Pinged immediately to the front from his inside marble, Redzel was given a soft lead by Kerrin McEvoy while his opposition tried to sort themselves out behind him. Allowed to swing into the home turn with relatively little pressure, Redzel simply dashed for home, and by the time Trapeze Artist started to hit top gear, the bird had already flown. Redzel’s second successive victory in this fledgling, but exciting, sprint feature was massively popular with rank and file punters who’d seen him capture the inaugural running of the world’s richest race on turf last year. Recently crowned Australia’s Champion Sprinter of 2017-2018, Redzel has given his large group of Triple Crown Syndications owners an unbelievable ride, one shared to the hilt by co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden. The former acknowledged that dreaming of winning the race for a third time would be too much to hope for. “I’m going to lap up today,” he quipped. Redzel’s victory on Saturday improved his record to 14 wins (including 2017's The Everest, Gr1 Darley Classic, Gr1 Doomben 10,000, Gr2 Challenge Stakes, Gr2 Shorts, Gr3 Concorde Stakes – twice, Gr3 Hall Mark Stakes, Gr3 Heath Stakes & Listed Fireball Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr1 ATC Galaxy Handicap, Gr20 Shorts, Gr2 ATC Challenge Stakes & Gr3 ATC Kindergarten Stakes) from 28 starts for $15,372,00 in earnings. Redzel, who is out of Gr3 Sweet Embrace Stakes winner & Golden Slipper placegetter Millrich, was a $120,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Marquee Stud. He was originally sold for $45,000 at the 2013 Inglis Australian Bloodstock Select Weanling Sale.
