The Autumn Sun Rises For Arrowfield Stud

Wednesday, 10th October 2018

Earlier today, Arrowfield Stud principal John Messara, AM, announced the acquisition of a 50 per cent interest in Australia’s top 3YO colt, The Autumn Sun, from owner Hermitage Thoroughbreds. Enthusing about Arrowfield’s major new stallion prospect, Messara said, “It just seems Arrowfield is the rightful place for this colt’s future at stud – after all, we bred and sold him in partnership with The Aga Khan Studs, and we launched and stood his champion sire and grand-sire. He has physique, athleticism and pedigree, all of the highest order, and I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of standing him at Arrowfield.” In addition to Arrowfield Stud standing the beautifully bred Gr1-winning 2YO and 3YO at the end of his racing career, John Messara also assumes responsibility for managing The Autumn Sun’s racing career, one which trainer Chris Waller believes has a lot more to offer. including Saturday’s Gr1 Caulfield Guineas for which The Autumn Sun is a hot favourite. His part-purchase opens a plethora of global stud opportunities for the boom 3YO colt. By Arrowfield’s multiple Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), The Autum Sun is impeccably pedigreed, being out of the Galileo mare Azmiyna, a half-sister to His Highness The Aga Khan’s European Champion and four-time Group 1 winner Azamour. Selected by Mulcaster Bloodstock from Arrowfield’s 2017 Inglis Easter draft, the colt was purchased for $700,000 by Hermitage Thoroughbreds & Chris Waller Racing. The Autumn Sun has already made a significant impact on Australian racing with four wins from only five starts, two of them at Group 1 level. Unbeaten at two, when his three wins included the Gr1 BRC JJ Atkins Stakes, The Autumn Sun confirmed his class with a breath-taking victory in last month’s Gr1 ATC Golden Rose Stakes (see below), leading many pundits to suggest he could be Australia’s next racing superstar.
