Everest Betting Suspended

Tuesday, 9th October 2018

Betting on the Everest has been suspended after Racing NSW decided to conduct the barrier draw for the race in private to circumvent any security risks ahead of tonight's official function at the Sydney Opera House. The results of this morning's barrier draw have been held in confidence by Racing NSW Stewards to ensure they are not publicly known until this evening. Racing NSW Stewards shall advise all wagering operators this evening when they may recommence betting on the event. "The draw was done within our normal protocols on Tuesday morning and only myself and my deputy Philip Dingwall know the results," Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel told the Sydney Morning Herald. "It will be kept secure until it is released to the public on the Opera House tonight." The security risks relate to the ongoing public fallout from the NSW government's decision to allow Racing NSW to promote the world's richest turf race on the iconic sails of the World Heritage listed Opera House.
