QLD Star To Overcome Top Weight
Queensland trainer Liam Birchley is expecting Crack Me Up to run well in Saturday's Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) at Flemington despite being allotted top weight of 60kg. The reigning Queensland Horse of the Year, whose primary spring target is the Gr1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on 3 November, kicked off his campaign with an encouraging fifth in the Gr2 Bobbie Lewis Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on 15 September. "His run in the Bobbie Lewis was solid. And he does go better second-up," Birchley told AAP. "He has shown he likes 1600 metres so this looks the right race for him in Melbourne." Birchley added: "He will need one more run after the Paris Lane but I haven't decided which one."
