Dundeel Colt Eyeing Derby

Wednesday, 29th August 2018

Trainer Ciaron Maher labelled Global Exchange a potential Victoria Derby horse after the son of exciting young Arrowfield sire Dundeel opened his account with a strong win at Pakenham on Tuesday. Ridden by Ben Melham, Global Exchange showed the benefit of an encouraging debut at Sandown ten days ago when powering to a narrow yet decisive win in the APM Group Maiden Plate over 1400 metres. "He's a big raw horse who has always struck me as a Derby type of horse. Whether the spring comes around a bit quick for him we will just have to wait and see," Maher told racing.com. "It's great to get a winner for Suanne Khaw, they're her colours [red and yellow shamrock], and the China Horse Club. I think they are going to have a lot of fun with him going forward." Maher added: "We will just take him through his grades and I'm sure he will keep developing into a nice horse. He's still learning what it's all about so I won't drop him in the deep end just yet." Purchased by Maher for $130,000 at the 2017 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Little Avondale Stud, Global Exchange is out of Incredulous (Keep The Faith), a half sister to Gr2 AJC Emancipation Stakes winner Faith Hill from Gr3 winner Simply Believe (Kenmare). This is the Audrey Joan family of Gr1 Falmouth Stakes winner River Dane, Gr1 winner Pure Of Heart (dam of Lion Hunter), Bill Stutt Stakes winner Schubert, Abonnement (dam of Gonski), and Gr2 winner Downhill Racer. Dundeel (High Chaparral-Stareel, by Zabeel), a six-time Gr1 winner, will stand at Arrowfield this spring at a fee of $27,500 (inc. GST).
