At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Darley's former Champion Australian Sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a Group race success when 3YO Australian-bred colt Danawi (Exceed And Excel-Secret Admirer, by Dubawi) survived a protest to open his stakes account with a win in the $150,000 Gr3 Ming Dynasty (1400m) for 3YOs, defeating Mizzy & Dealmaker. From the dual Gr1 winning mare Secret Admirer, Danawi was purchased by his trainer Tim Martin for $400,000 at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Milburn Creek. He improved his record to 1 win and 3 placings (including the Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes) from 4 starts for $141,900 in earnings. Martin has always held Danawi in high regard and believes he can scale some lofty heights in the spring. “He's a promising horse and he can go on with it, I hope, from here” Martin told Sky Racing. “We'll look at running him in the Stan Fox Stakes and then the Golden Rose and the Caulfield Guineas [Gr1], races like that.”
