At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Widden Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Star Witness (Starcraft-Leone Chiara, by Lion Hunter) added a Group race success when 3YO Australian-bred colt Graff (Star Witness-Dinkum Diamond, by Keep the Faith) kept his perfect record intact with commanding first-up win in the $150,000 Gr3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) for 3YOs, defeating Neutrality & Performer. Purchased by renowned judge Alan Bell for $200,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Graff, from the Gr3 winning mare Dinkum Diamond, extended his unbeaten record to 3 wins from 3 starts for $217,610 in earnings. Graff, who races in Bell’s grey and red diagonal striped silks made famous by the likes of Grand Armee, Deep Field, Primacy and former champion sprinter, Schillaci, stamped himself as a star with this brilliant performance. “He's the best colt I've had anything to do with,” trainer Kris Lees told Sky Racing. “He's a pretty serious horse and he'll go to the Run To The Rose and then to the Golden Rose.” The Gr2 Run To The Rose (1200m) will be run at Rosehill on 8 September. Graff is now an 8-1 chance for the $1 million Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on 22 September.
