Epsom Target for Paret

Monday, 30th July 2018

Trainer Chris Waller says 3YO gelding Paret may be finally ready to fulfil his potential after returning to the winner's circle at Rosehill on Saturday. The talented but enigmatic Paret had not won a race since his eye-catching debut at Canterbury in September last year, but he showed a glimpse of his true ability when breaking through for a stylish win in the TAB Rewards Handicap over 1400m. Waller, who once considered the son of Harbour Watch a Group 1 calibre horse, hopes he can now go on with it and make his mark in the spring. "He's obviously shown us a lot of ability but was a little disappointing in the autumn. He's come back so well and today he showed what he can do," Waller told Sky Racing. "He is can certainly capable of winning a good race." Waller added: "Each carnival you see one progress through the grades. Is it going to be Paret? I don't know, but he could get to a race like the Epsom (Gr1) without much trouble." The $1 million Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) will be run at Royal Randwick on 29 September.
