Enable Edges Closer to Return

Monday, 30th July 2018

Meanwhile, trainer John Gosden has provided an update on the preparation of last year's European Horse of the Year Enable who is closer to making her eagerly awaited return to the track. The superstar mare has missed the first half of the northern hemisphere's summer season due to knee problems. "I was very pleased with her this morning (Saturday) when she was doing a half-speed. She's in top nick but I'm not going to name a race yet. It's too soon. The filly can tell me; I'm not going to set dates," Gosden told Racing Post. "The most stupid thing you can do is force a horse. She's had time off for an issue and what you must never do is name a race and try to fit the foot to the shoe. That's the wrong way around. But she's been pleasing me. This morning, nearly too much." Owned by Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms, Enable (Nathaniel-Concentric, by Sadlers Wells) confirmed her status as one of the best fillies of the modern era when rounding out her 2017 campaign with a brilliant win in the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly in October. The victory capped a remarkable 3YO season for the now 4YO who won 5 Group 1 races, namely the Arc, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, English, Irish & Yorkshire Oaks.
