Shoals Close To Trialling

Friday, 27th July 2018

Outstanding filly Shoals is set to trial at Cranbourne on Monday week before kicking off her Everest campaign at Moonee Valley in September. Brad Taylor, stable representative for trainer Anthony Freedman, said Shoals was likely to return to racing in either the Gr2 McEwan Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday 8 September, or the Gr1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Friday 28 September. The Freedman stable have two horses entered in The Everest, with three-time Gr1 winner Santa Ana Lane also be prepared for the race. "Both horses will trial at Cranbourne on the 6th August and then they will probably return to Cranbourne for another trial two weeks later," Taylor told Sky Sports Radio. "We are going to see how Shoals trials before deciding which race she will resume in. The two options at this stage are the McEwan and the Moir Stakes." Taylor added: "She will run in one of those, who maybe both, and then progress to The Everest." Trained by Anthony Freedman on behalf of owner-breeders John Messara and Jonathan Munz, Shoals (Fastnet Rock-The Broken Shore, by Hussonet) has established herself as the best 3YO sprinting filly in Australia with three Group 1 victories in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m), Surround Stakes (1200m) and Myer Classic (1600m). The blue blooded filly, who has hitherto won 7 of her 10 starts for over $2 million in prize money, will represent slot-holder The Star Entertainment Group in the $13 million The Everest (1200m) to be run at Royal Randwick on 13 October.
