Heath First-Up for Santa

Friday, 27th July 2018

Meanwhile, top-class sprinter Santa Ana Lane, a stable-mate of Shoals, will also trial at Cranbourne on 6 August before launching his Everest campaign in the Group 3 The Heath (1100m) at Caulfield on 1 September. "He will most likely run first-up in the Heath over 1100 metres at Caulfield. That's a set weights and penalties race so he will get a bit of weight in that but he will need the run to bring on his fitness," said Brad Taylor, stable representative for trainer Anthony Freedman. "We then have a couple of options with him. He will have a second run either here (Melbourne) or in Sydney before heading to The Everest." Taylor added: "He's a typical Lope De Vega. They take a bit of time to mature but now he is fully matured and developed and he is producing it on the track which is good to see." Taylor said the stable was delighted to have two top prospects heading towards the world's richest turf race. "It's a great achievement for the stable to have two horses in a race like The Everest," he said. "We are a medium sized stable, not overly big, so we have to thank the owners for giving us these nice horses (Santa Ana Lane and Shoals)." Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vega-Fast Fleet, by Fastnet Rock) will represent slot-holder Inglis in the $13 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 13 October.
