Harron Playing Everest Waiting Game
Everest slot-holder James Harron says he is in no rush to select his representative for the world's richest turf race, reports racing.com. Harron, who was successful in last year's inaugural Everest with Redzel, is one of three slot-holders yet to lock in a horse for the $13 million The Everest (1200m) to be run at Royal Randwick on 13 October. "There's a lot of contenders out there and I think there is still a lot of water to go under the bridge," Harron said. "There are a number of horses that will be able to find a few lengths from last preparation. They might have just been developing into these big players so we're sort of keeping a pretty open mind at present." He added: "There are a lot of pieces of the puzzle that needs to come together. I think we'll see some big surprises." Harron confirmed that boom Melbourne sprinter Nature Strip, who will step out in the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday, is one horse he is keeping a close eye on. "We are looking at a lot of horses," he said. " But he's a horse that we're certainly watching. He's obviously got brilliant speed but everyone's question mark is whether he can sustain that sped over 1200 metres."
