Kementari Oozes Class In Trial

Tuesday, 24th July 2018

Trainer James Cummings believes high class sprinter-miler Kementari possesses the perfect profile for The Everest. The head trainer for Godolphin Australia was discussing Kementari's spring goals after watching the star colt finish off stylishly for third behind She Will Reign in a 900 metre trial at Rosehill yesterday. Kementari stamped himself as one of the best gallopers in Australia when winning the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) and placing third behind Winx in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) in the autumn. He will launch his spring campaign in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday week (4 August). "He looked great. He just flashed up into third spot there. He's perfect for where we need to have him for next Saturday's Missile Stakes," Cummings told racing.com. "We are going to run him in August and then again in September in the Memsie (Gr1 Memsie Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield)." Cummings said there were plenty of options for a horse like Kementari, including the $13 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on 13 October. "We will be able to get a good feel of where we are going after the Memsie but it's just well positioned for us with regards to not only The Everest but all other options if that does not unfold the way it should," he said. "I think he's the sort of horse that would be very competitive in The Everest. He fits the profile but...we don't have a spot. He's a beautiful horse. He's gone ahead. He looks tremendous and I think he's going to be extremely competitive in whatever we set him for."
