Sea Of Class Wins Gr1 Irish Oaks
Beautifully bred filly Sea Of Class (Sea The Stars-Holy Moon, by Hernando) made the steep progression from a Listed winner to the top grade with aplomb when landing the Gr1 Irish Oaks (12 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at The Curragh in Ireland on Saturday. The William Haggas-trained 3YO took the huge step up in class in her stride courtesy of an exquisitely timed last-to-first ride by jockey James Doyle to score a narrow yet impressive neck win over race favourite Forever Together with Mary Tudor in third. Haggas said he always had faith in Sea Of Class's ability. "It's a big race for us, we don't come here very often," Haggas told Sky Sports. "This is a very good filly and we know she's a good filly, so you want it all to go right and it's come right." Haggas added: "We were never that keen on going to Epsom, but it's an Oaks and Oaks are big things." Doyle commented: "I had full confidence in her. It was a great shout not to go for the Oaks [Epsom], because it probably did come a little bit soon. She's quite a late foal, so she's done very well... she's shown today what she can do and it was just a joy to be part of." Sea Of Class advanced her record to 3 wins (including the Listed Fillies' Trial Stakes) and 1 placing from 4 starts for £271,343 in earnings.
