At Pukekura in New Zealand, Haunui Farm shuttler Iffraaj (Zafonic-Pastorale, by Nureyev) added a black-type success when 5YO New Zealand-bred mare New York Minute (Iffraaj-Zenno Queen, by Zenno Rob Roy) scored a commanding front-running win in the $65,000 Listed Opunake Cup (1400m) for 3YO+, defeating Sleeping Beauty & stable-mate Tomelilla. This was successive stakes victories for New York Minute who advanced her record to record to 8 wins (including the Listed Tauranga Classic) and 6 placings (including the Gr3 CJC Winter Cup) from 24 starts for NZ$211,535 in earnings. Trainers Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman confirmed that New York Minute is being aimed at the Group 1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) at Hastings on 1 September. "We'll probably freshen her and ideally head to the Foxbridge Plate and then the first day at Hastings," said Forsman, referring to the Tarzino. Purchased for $15,000 at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Sale, New York Minute is a direct descendant of the unraced UK-bred mare Toyland, dam of the outstanding Australian filly of the 1970's, Toy Show. Toy Show won 4 Gr1s during her illustrious career, namely the Golden Slipper (where she defeated influential matriarch Denise's Joy), AJC Sires' Produce Stakes, VATC 1,000 Guineas & Newmarket Handicap.
