Menari The Ferrari Secures Everest Slot
Everest slot-holder Max Whitby has announced that richly talented but injury prone colt Menari will be his representative in the world's richest turf race in October. The Snitzel colt, who had tie-back surgery in the spring and missed the autumn after injuring a joint, is likely to launch his Everest campaign in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on 1 September. The $13 million The Everest (1200m) will be run at Royal Randwick on 13 October. Whitby said he is confident that Menari can finally realise his enormous potential this spring. "Gerald [trainer Gerald Ryan] has all the confidence in the world that he's come back in terrific shape. He's very bullish about the horse," Whitby told racenet. "He's had a couple of setbacks in the past but Gerald's sure his wind isn't going to be an issue and we're happy to have him. He's got a real X-factor...this is a sprinter that has the makings of something special." Whitby added: "George [owner and breeder George Altomonte] has had his share of good horses and he's got a big rap on him."
