McEvoy Unfazed by Nature Strip

Friday, 20th July 2018

Trainer Tony McEvoy says he not afraid of taking on Nature Strip when juvenile filly Sunlight clashes with the boom sprinter in the $100,000 Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday week. McEvoy was discussing the prospect of taking on the Darren Weir-trained Nature Strip after watching Sunlight tune up for her return with an impressive 4.5 length barrier trial win over 900m at Morphettville yesterday. "I can only worry about my filly," McEvoy told racing.com. "Whether Nature Strip or Winx is there, my filly will only run if she's ready." McEvoy added: "Nature Strip...why wouldn't you be running in the Bletchingly? For me, if they're thinking of coming here, maybe he's not quite going as well as they'd like, which is comforting for me." McEvoy confirmed that Sunlight would run second-up in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) for 3YO fillies at Caulfield on 19 August.
