Scales Of Justice On Comeback Trail
West Australian trainer Lindsey Smith is cautiously optimistic that top-class galloper Scales Of Justice can make his comeback to the races in Melbourne in the spring. The rising 6YO hasn't raced since sustaining an injury when failing to defend his title in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot in November. "I've wanted to take my time with him and he's been back about nine weeks now, slowly building up, but I'm not convinced he's right unfortunately," Smith told the West Australian. "He's had a lot of problems with his muscles. It's taken forever to get him back and he's not fully back yet. I'm hoping a bit more work will rebuild him a bit." Smith added: "He'll have a gallop in a couple of weeks and then go to the trials. If he makes it through that he'll go to Melbourne but it's fingers crossed at this stage." Smith nominated the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on 13 October as a potential spring target for Scales Of Justice (Not a Single Doubt-Beymatilla, by Umatilla).
