Exciting Galloper Showing Plenty of Grunt
Trainer Mick Price says he couldn't be happier with the progress of exciting 3YO Grunt as he prepares for an ambitious spring carnival campaign. The New Zealand-bred colt announced himself as one of the rising stars of Australian racing when scoring a resounding win in the Group 1 Australian Guineas in March. Price said the son of O'Reilly, who has won 4 of his 5 starts, has furnished into an outstanding type and he is looking forward to him making a play at races such as the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup. "Grunt was a lightish Kiwi sort of autumn three-year-old. He had a lovely break after the Australian Guineas, and he's a magnificent four-year-old now. He's really improved," Price told racing.com. "Physically, he's made a huge improvement because we were able to give him those eight or nine weeks instead of a short break." Price added: "He'll be in those weight-for-age 1400s here [at Caulfield]. We'll kick off in one of those and then have a weight-for-age program into the Cox Plate or Caulfield Cup."
