Theo Marks First-Up for Trapeze Artist
Trainer Gerald Ryan has revealed that star sprinter Trapeze Artist will launch his Everest campaign in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on 8 September. Trapeze Artist laid claim to being the best sprinter in Australia, and therefore the world, when landing successive Group 1 features in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) and All Aged Stakes (1400m) in Sydney in the autumn. Following the Theo Marks, the son of champion Arrowfield stallion Snitzel will then run in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 29 September as the final lead-up to his primary spring target - the $13 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on 13 October. "He's coming along well, working along running half miles in 54.5 or 55 seconds and doing it well," Ryan told racingnsw.com.au. "He's a bigger, stronger horse. He didn't put on a lot of weight, he'll probably race 20kg heavier, but it's just maturity." Ryan said Trapeze Artist was likely to have his first trial either at Randwick on 30 July or Rosehill on 7 August.
