Sprinter To Monstar Top Weight

Wednesday, 11th July 2018

Scone-based trainer Brett Cavanough is quietly confident that his stable star The Monstar has the class edge in today's Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton, reports racenet. However, The Monstar, who finished a narrow second in last year's Ramornie, will have to set a modern day weight carrying record if he is to win the $160,000 sprint feature. The 7YO will have to lump 59.5kg and better the previous best of 58kg carried by The Jackal in 2007. "He's got the same weight he carried when beaten a lip last year and he's won a Group II since then so I'm not complaining," said Cavanough. "History says he can't win it but I failed history at school so we'll have a go. He is what he is – he's a good horse." Cavanough added: "It took a track record to beat him last year and with respect to the other runners, I don't think the race is as strong, top to bottom, as it was last year." The Monstar (California Dane-Sirocco Mist, by Brocco) is an $11 fixed odds chance with TAB.
