Music To Baker's Ears

Wednesday, 11th July 2018

Smart sprinter Music Magnate (Written Tycoon-Concert Girl, by Danehill Dancer) is likely to open his spring campaign in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 4 August. The 2016 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 winner looked in top order when winning a 904 metre barrier trial at Rosehill on Monday. It was his first public appearance since finishing 11th in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) in Dubai on 31 March. "It was a good trial and he looks great at the moment. We can't fault him. He never got out of second gear in the trial and had plenty left in the tank," trainer Bjorn Baker told Sky Sports Radio. "He went to Dubai and didn't run up to his best over there so we are looking forward to getting him back." Baker added: "We will probably look at a race like the Missile Stakes with him. The Missile will be a hot race but he's going well. He's a high class horse on his day." Baker said he had no plans for Music Magnate beyond the Missile. "We will play it by ear. Realistically he won't make it to The Everest so we might have to look at The Everest consolation race," he said. Click here to watch Music Magnate's trial.
