More Than Ready Colt Wins Gr1 Belmont Derby

Monday, 9th July 2018

At Belmont Park in the US, Vinery Stud's champion shuttler More Than Ready (Southern Halo-Woodman's Girl, by Woodman) celebrated a top-flight success when 3YO US-bred colt Catholic Boy (More Than Ready-Song Of Bernadette, by Bernardini) continued his impressive rise through the ranks when rallying strongly in the stretch to score by a head in the US$1.2 million Gr1 Belmont Derby (10 furlongs) for 3YOs, defeating Analyze It & Hunting Horn. "Catholic Boy really has a lot of heart," trainer Jonathan Thomas told Blood Horse. "I didn't expect him to fight back this time. I thought we were going to finish a real good second, but somehow he got it done." Part owner Robert LaPenta commented: "He is such an amazing animal. His heart is huge. It's immeasurable. It's beyond comprehension that he came back to win again." The talented Catholic Boy improved his record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 Remsen Stakes & Gr3 With Anticipation Stakes) and 1 placing from 8 starts.
