Bonneval Back for Spring

Friday, 6th July 2018

Reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year Bonneval is making good progress in the build-up to her spring campaign, reports NZ Racing Desk. The multiple Group 1 winner missed the entire autumn after connections discovered she was suffering from a suspensory ligament issue in February. However, trainers Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman say she has fully recovered and is on track for the spring carnival in Melbourne. "She's had a couple of easy gallops and all going well she'll trial at Te Teko in early August," said Forsman. "She's had the time to get over the injury and the joint looks spot on. She looks great and she's strengthened and really thriving at the moment." Forsman added: "Murray and the owners will have a talk after she trials and, if she comes through that well, they'll set some serious plans – probably a similar path to last spring." A winner of the New Zealand & Australian Oaks double as a 3YO, Bonneval (Makfi-Imposingly, by Zabeel) returned at four to win the Gr1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) and the Gr2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) in Melbourne last spring. Her most recent performance was a 14th placing in the Caulfield Cup on 21 October.
