$1M Yearling Ready To Roar

Friday, 6th July 2018

Headlining a plethora of well-bred and expensive juveniles lining up at Newcastle tomorrow is $1,000,000 yearling purchase Lion's Head. Entered for Race 4, the 1200m Mex Club Maiden Handicap, the valuable 2YO colt will no doubt be tuned-up by Team Snowden for a debut tilt in the ownership of the powerful China Horse Club. By Champion Stallion Snitzel, Lion's Head is from imported USA Leroidesanimaux mare Tara of the Cape, a Listed winner and Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile 4th. She's a half-sister to Gr3 winner and Gr1 Santa Anita Derby 3rd Royal Mo. The family also traces to 3rd dam Irish Linnet, a winner of 19 races with a peak performance in the Gr2 Belmont New York Handicap. Lion's Head was the equal 12th highest priced yearling at the 2017 Inglis Easter Sale where 17 individuals breached the triple figure mark across the catalogue. The first foal of Tara from the Cape has already saluted in the US and Lion's Head is succeeded so far by an unnamed full sister (2017 foal) and Redoute's Choice half-brother (2016 foal). Lion's Head has prepared for his first outing with three trials including a win in his final lead-up trial at Hawkesbury over 1000m on soft ground.
