Urban Fox Wins Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes

Monday, 2nd July 2018

At The Curragh in Ireland overnight, Newgate Farm's Gr1-winning Australian-bred shuttler Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock-Forest Native, by Forest Wildcat) celebrated a top-flight success when 4YO UK-bred mare Urban Fox (Foxwedge-Lomapamar, by Nashwan) vindicated her trainer's lofty opinion of her when scoring by a cosy 3 lengths in the Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes (10 furlongs) for fillies & mares, defeating odds on favourite Forever Together & Athena. Maureen Haggas, wife of trainer William Haggas, told Sky Sports: "I'm thrilled to bits. I couldn't be more pleased. She's a beautiful filly. William said he wanted to step her up in trip and she's really enjoyed it." Haggas added: "She's a beautiful, big filly and she'll give the owners a beautiful mare when she goes to stud. She's done really well. She'll be given a bit of a break now." This was the first black-type victory for Urban Fox who improved her record to 5 wins and 4 placings (including the Gr1 Fillies' Mile) from 18 starts for £284,356 in earnings.
