First Winner for War

Monday, 2nd July 2018

Blue blooded stallion War sired his first winner when the Barry Campbell-trained filly Kwai (War-Pontington, by Delago Brom) scored an easy win in the Carlton Draught Maiden (1000m) at Devonport in Tasmania yesterday. Kwai, a granddaughter of Gr2 Kewney Stakes winner Ponton Flyer, was purchased by Star Thoroughbreds & Boomer Bloodstock for $45,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale from the draft of Armidale Stud. Trained by Gai Waterhouse, War (More Than Ready-Deedra, by Zabeel) showed above average ability winning the Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes before his racing career was cut short by injury. War is a half-brother to Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Fenway (High Chaparral) from the Zabeel mare Deedra, herself a half sister to Gr1 winners Tuesday Joy and Sunday Joy (dam of More Joyous) and a granddaughter of celebrated blue hen Denise's Joy. War stands at Blue Gum Farm in Victoria.
