Jonker Wins Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic

Friday, 22nd December 2017

At Wyong on the NSW Central Coast, Eureka Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo-Temple Spirit, by Special Dane) added a black-type success when exciting 2YO colt Jonker (Spirit Of Boom-Hearts And Arrows, by Kempinsky) scored a dazzling win in the $200,000 Listed (R) Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1100m), defeating Skyray & Bondi. Jonker, who firmed into $3.50 favouritism for the $2 Million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast, extended his unbeaten record to 2 wins from 2 starts for $143,260 in earnings. Trainer David Aitkins said the Newcastle colt would not race again until Magic Millions raceday on 13 January. "I've always liked him but after his second trial he went super and he's just got better and better and there is even more improvement to come," Atkins told Sky Racing. "Three weeks now to the Gold Coast will be perfect for him." A $45,000 purchase at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the well-bred Jonker is out the Kempinsky mare Hearts And Arrows, a half-sister to Gr3 VRC The Debonair winner Fair Trade. This makes Jonker a direct descendent of legendary blue hen Eight Carat. Jonker was bred from Wicklow Lodge by Jeff Cullen. It's been a remarkable couple of seasons for Cullen after breeding Gr2 winner and exciting young sire Winning Rupert. Cullen only has a handful of mares at his Queensland property. Jonker's dual Gr1 winning sire Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo-Temple Spirit, by Special Dane) is standing his fourth season at Eureka Stud at a fee of $11,000 (inc. GST).
